Llantrisant, South Wales: How about somewhere different? Why not try beautiful, historic, musical, eccentric Wales?
Home Description:
Ideal for retired couple/couple with no children/two friends/two
siblings - attractive single storey white cottage-type home. One
bedroom (twin beds), large farmhouse style kitchen/diner, living
room, study, bathroom, car port and garage.
Small low maintenance (but pretty!) gardens front and rear. Rear garden faces south and is wholly private; patio has awning for hot weather and seats and benches. Kitchen (front) faces out to hill-side with horses grazing; and just a tilt of the head affords a view of the Norman church on the top of the next hill! The bungalow is compact but convenient, comfortable and easily kept clean and tidy. It is centrally heated with recently installed gas boiler and radiators. The entire home is carpeted in best quality carpeting with the exception of the kitchen which has 'French farmhouse' type floor-covering.
The kitchen is modern and convenient and comprises 'range'
type cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge/freezer,
TV, radio/cassette/CD player and all normal kitchen accoutrements.
The bathroom comprises luxury shower in cubicle, bath, wash hand
basin and wc. The living room has wall size patio doors with view
out onto south-facing garden. There is a TV, VCR, hi-fi and satellite
box (for receiving the Sky and CNN News and the 'God' channel).
There is an Edwardian 'look' gas fire set in an Edwardian style
fireplace. The study is book-lined and has a desk, table, telephone,
fax and hi fi, etc.
The carport has a wc, spare smaller refrigerator, another sink unit and further worktops.
The house is small, warm, cosy and secure. The neighbours are pleasant, friendly, welcoming, helpful and trustworthy.
The Area:
Llantrisant is an ancient town although many would class it as
a village. Llantrisant 'proper' sits high on a hill and the Norman
Parish church dominates the sky-line. As one proceeds toward it
from the M4 Motorway (freeway) it provides a most attractive,
welcoming sight.
Our home is not on top of the hill but in a small suburban
area at the very foot. On top of the hill in 'old' Llantrisant
there are old inns, courtyards, lanes and alleyways, not to mention
the wonderful ancient church. There is a castle ruin, (the Black
Prince is reputed to have hidden here) and many more attractions.
To the rear of the town facing north is a large area of
'common land' where horses roam free.
There is a village just below our estate where there are many shops, superstores, banks, doctors, dentists, etc. There are several churches in our small community area. Just at the top of our road is a park and municipal leisure centre; this has a swimming pool, gym and sports centre. There is a tennis court and bowling green alongside, together with an attractive pavilion.
In the surrounding areas there are wonderful tiny hamlets with thatched cottages, smart Georgian market towns, country parks, lakes, open air museum of Welsh life, National Trust properties, hills, mountains, etc. etc.
The nearest coastal resort with sandy beach, Porthcawl, is approx. 18 miles south-west. South-east there is Penarth with its attractive Victorian pier. Barry Island is not far away from Penarth, but is not so classy !
Cardiff has its own international airport, and these days many visitors come straight to Wales via this airport (through Amsterdam) rather than travel first to London/Heathrow. Cardiff Airport is about half an hour's drive from here.
Cardiff is a beautiful city. Its Civic Centre is a splendour
to behold - white classical buildings built alongside red brick
roads. Shops, inns, pubs, restaurants, malls and arcades proliferate.
Cardiff has Christian book/gift shops, both in city and also in
the suburbs. There are theatres and cinemas a-plenty. There is
also a large University. We now have a new harbour and the famously
refurbished Cradiff Bay with many new sights to see, including
the restored Norwegian church in which the childrens' writer Roald
DAHL was baptised as an infant.
Further afield there is Bristol City, Bath, Cheltenham, the
Cotswolds, Oxford,Windsor and of course London - all within easy
reach of the M4 motorway (freeway) which is half a mile from our
home ! Westwards is Swansea City, and going south there are the
beautiful counties of Devon and Cornwall. (Devon can be reached
in 2 hours from our home.) Going north there is awesomely beautiful
Mid Wales, then North Wales and Cheshire, Lancashire (home to
the Beatles), the Lake district (Wordsworth Country, then much
further north -
scenic Scotland !
Other Particulars:
We have a dog which goes to boarding kennels. Sorry - no children,
pets or smoking !! In warm/hot weather we would be grateful if
visitors would water our plants and small gardens regularly. We
regret we cannot provide a car as 'ours' is on a Government Lease
scheme.
Dates of Exchange:
Preferably 2 or 3 weeks between March and May or between September
and November.
Who We Are:
We, Peter and Judith are both retired, all children having flown
the nest - that's why we only have a one bedroomed, twin bedded
home, so the kids can't keep coming and dumping on them !! Free
at last !
We are born again, Bible believing Christians, attending an evangelical free fellowship in the nearest village. We love our cosy little home and the area in which we live. Despite being on fairly basic pensions we'd love to see a little more of the world. Exchanging is a sensible, economical and 'fun' way to do that - for all concerned !
We are careful, honest and trustworthy in others' homes: we expect the same courtesies of our exchangers.
