Home Description:
Lovely single storey home on quiet residential street, has attractive
floorplan and all conveniences, plus great views from every room.
It's a light and airyv. comfortable with three bedrooms (one en
suite) and 2 baths, both w. bath, separate shower and WC. Large,
modern kitchen has rectangular, tiled surface area and a central
working block w. burners. Oven is built into the wall, a bay window
with window ledge for plants looks out onto the mountain (as does
the huge living room window).
Separate utility room with washer & dryer houses ironing board and other cleaning things, is off the family room, which leads in an open plan off from the kitchen dining area to the back of the ouse, and the back deck. Steps from that deck go down to the private, fenced garden.
The spacious, stepdown living room has fabulous view of Mt. Shast & includes an additional dining table, chairs & china cabinet at one end. Fitted Bookshelves line the walls, floor to ceiling, on both sides of a floor to ceiling window. A marble pathway leads from the front door past the living room to the master bedroom suite and study. (Two bedrooms only are available (one of the two smaller ones is in use as a study). Carpeting throughout is a soft green, & other floors are hardwood or marble.
The Area:
Mt. Shasta is a small town, known for tourism, located in a genuine
beauty spot. It's in a small valley which includes small farms
(sheep, horses, goats, llamas, ostrich farms included!). Majestic
Mt. Shasta is right next to the town on one side, and a range
of smaller forested hills on the other. Boating, fishing and swimming
plus beautiful walks are all to be had around nearby (5 min drive)
Lake Siskiyou, skiing on the mountain, it's mostly flat near our
home so bicycling is an option. Driving North to Oregon is a spectacular
drive, as is south to Redding (very different terrain in each
case). Mt. Shasta has many good churches with solid teaching,
it also has its constituent New Age interests (a bookstore or
two). Shasta Resort is right behind our home, offering tennis
and golf. Several v.nice restaurants plus some fast food are also
a 5 minute drive away. Our street ends in a country road with
farms on the other side. We can walk to our church, which is closer
to the lake.
Other Particulars:
Computer, Two TVs (one in master bedroom) VCR, decks front, side
and back, woodburning stove (only needed occasionally in winter)
forced air heating otherwise (oil), masterbedroom suite has separate
thermostat, and is airconditioned. No pets or smoking! Two cats
live in garage and need feeding daily (easy job). Attached 2 car
garage. Plenty of parking space, driveway leads up to road. Bicycles
available (his and hers!). Use of car.
Our Preferred Destination:
Worthing, Sussex would be our choice. My parents live there and
we want to spend some time near them. If a car is offered, then
anywhere within a reasonable driving distance.
Dates of Exchange:
Since my husband is a fulltime writer and can work anywhere with
a computer, we are somewhat flexible. We'd consider an extended
stay if it fit in with other commitments, 2-6 months. One month
is probably not worth our time to move that far.
