Home Description:
Our offered property is nestled in a small private enclave and is an immaculate 1600 sf, 3 BR, 2 1/2 BA townhouse, an end unit facing away from the others to a charming duck pond. The family oriented neighborhood is very quiet except for the frog chorus at night.

The eat-in kitchen is well equipped and has hardwood floors and a laundry center (washer, dryer, ironing board and iron). This room and the dining room which seats eight to ten are furnished with oak antiques, traditional furniture elsewhere. There is a gas fireplace, patio with awning,TV, DVD/VCR player, games and books. It sleeps five very comfortably, six if someone takes the couch.

There is a downstairs master bedroom (queen bed) with a dressing area and sink, connected to a large tile bathroom with another sink, commode and shower/tub.  All closets and drawers are empty, including the walk-in master closet. Upstairs bedrooms have twin beds, a total of three. The shared bath includes twin sinks, commode and a shower/tub. All linens are furnished.

The Area:
Half a mile away you'll find Jamestown Fort which is a recreation of the oldest continuous English-speaking settlement in America. Cannon fire can be heard from the replica of the Godspeed docked close by in the James River. Take a short ride on the free ferry to picturesque Surry and Smithfield and shop for antiques. March with the fife and drum corps down Duke of Gloucester Street in Colonial Williamsburg and eat in one of its taverns serving authentic 18th century cuisine. Yorktown with its Revolutionary War museum and battlefields are minutes away by a drive along the scenic Colonial Parkway--watch closely and you'll often spot wading herons or a bald eagle and osprey battling overhead for ownership of a struggling fish. Huge amusement parks, Busch Gardens(repeatedly voted America's Most Beautiful Theme Park) and Water Country are 15 minutes away. Swim from a sandy river beach nearby, or rent a boat at the marina just across Jamestown Road. Tennis courts in our neighborhood are available for your use. Golfer? Play Kingsmill Resort, new home of the LPGA tournament, and the Golden Horseshoe in Williamsburg proper; they're 15 minutes away and we have a good set of men's clubs to lend. There is addictive outlet shopping in Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Richmond, with King's Dominion, another great theme park, are all within an hour's drive. Washington, D.C. is an easy 2 1/2 hour trip to the north, as are North Carolina's endless miles of scenic, uncrowded beach to the south. For a winter vacation, Massanutten is about three hours away, and offers superb skiing in the Blue Ridge Mountains when the snow cooperates. Our climate here in Tidewater Virginia is a bit more moderate than usual since we are surrounded by bodies of water; we often have warm days into late October, with short winters and long, glorious springs. Both our large, friendly, interdenominational church and a modern shopping center are conveniently close. Nearest airport is Newport News International (30 minutes), or Richmond (45 minutes), but Norfolk is often cheaper to fly to.

Other Particulars:
This summer we rented on a weekly basis to a lovely West Virginia family who couldn't exchange homes. They're returning for another stay in December. Contact us for availability and reasonable rates. No inside smoking or pets, please, though we love animals. My husband is extremely allergic to cats, so we couldn't consider an exchange with a household that includes them. Well behaved children are welcome. We would also be very interested in a Hospitality Exchange. There would usually be three of us and we like to travel and meet new Christian friends. A car swap may be possible. We have a 2001 Windstar minivan with all the gadgets, including a VCR to help a trip seem shorter to the kids.

Our Preferred Destination:
OPEN and adventurous! California, Pittsburgh, PA area and international destinations are especially desirable. We enjoy mountain lakes and balmy beaches.

Dates of Exchange:
We're pretty much tied to school holidays, but duration is negotiable.

Who We Are:
We are a professional couple, Art (engineering consultant) and Linda (part-time writer and full-time mom), Christians in our mid-50's with a grown daughter living near Pittsburgh (explaining our interest in a swap in this area) and Ben, our 15 year old son. We live within 1/2 mile of the townhouse, and would be happy to act as hosts if this is not a simultaneous swap, pointing the way to the best restuarants and attractions.
