Karlsruhe: Four lovely bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with hot tub, only minutes from France, not far to Switzerland

Home Description:
Our home is four years old, 1,900 sq. ft. with four bedrooms, sleeping up to six people. We have 2 bathrooms, two TVs with satellite receivers, a DVD player and a computer with high speed internet access. The kitchen, bathrooms, living room and bedrooms are all fully equipped and include dishwasher, stove, refrigerator, two showers, hot tub, washing machine and tumble-drier. There is a large lawn around 2,700 sq. ft. to the side of our house, fenced, with three small trees and a terrace of 180 sq.ft. Because our home is at the edge of the suburbs, our sitting room window, terrace and lawn all have an uninterrupted view across open fields and trees. Most ceilings and floors in our home are wooden giving the rooms a special charm. We are non-smokers and would appreciate exchanging with the same although outdoor smoking would be fine. Our cat lives both indoors and out, is around six years old, has black and white fur and is called Mikesch.

The Area:
We live in a suburb called Rueppurr on the outskirts of the town of Karlsruhe in south-west Germany. Our street is a quiet cul-de-sac with closely built detached and semi-detached houses. The nearest children’s playground is 150 yards away.

Our hometown Karlsruhe (pop. 250,000) has a comfortable pedestrian shopping zone and a choice of movie theaters. It is well known for its big 18th century palace, its zoo and the ZKM (museum for computer generated art).

Karlsruhe is situated close to the lovely Black Forest and only 30 miles south of Heidelberg with its marvelous castle and picturesque cobbled streets. The border to France is only 10 miles away, so you can easily visit the French region of Alsace with its impressive cities of Colmar, Strasbourg and Wissembourg. Switzerland is 125 miles away. I recommend a trip to Schaffhausen with its beautiful waterfall across the River Rhine. Basel is also lovely. The distance to Munich is 185 miles.

Other Particulars:
We have an excellent transit system with streetcars to downtown Karlsruhe. We live less than an hour from Stuttgart's international airport or 90 minutes from Frankfurt airport. We could possibly arrange for you to be picked up and brought to our home upon arrival. We are interested in a car exchange.

Our Preferred Destination:
Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia, Washington
Victoria/Vancouver, British Columbia

Dates of Exchange:
Any Three weeks in March, April, or May 2005

Who We Are:
We are a family of three. My wife Sibylle (35) is a professional violinist and plays for the Pforzheim city orchestra. These days, however, she is home-maker and mom to our daughter Corinna (18 months). I (Chris, 36) am news and music editor for the second biggest internet portal in Germany (http://www.web.de). We are active in our local church (http://karlsruhe.feg.de/) and lead/host a small group in our house. Sibylle leads a worship group for morning service.
